another remarkable archeological mark of the island
In the beautiful settlement of village Pyli Harmili area there is another remarkable archeological site of Kos island.
It is a very ancient tomb of the ancient king of the island, Harmylos.
It is a place worth visiting and the is location 300 meters east of the main square of the village.
It has a characteristic shape and consists of a semicircular building with twelve symmetrical crypts, six on each side. The tomb is dated around the third century BC and is the hero of the respective period. In the past, the facade of the tomb was covered by an Ionian gallery made of white marble. Unfortunately, these specific pieces of marble along with a marble inscription, thanks to which the age of the monument was determined, were removed from the Tomb.
The reason was their use in the construction of the church of the Cross where they are carefully built in and which is built right above the tomb of Harmylos.
