Psalidi Wetland

a quiet area with a lot of birds

Psalidi Wetland

The habitat of Psalidi or the swamp of Psalidi, consists of two torrents that end at the shore of Psalidi thus forming a coastal swamp. The connection with the sea is made through a canal that is naturally filled with soil and vegetation, forming a brackish swamp with a permanent presence of water. The distance is short from the city of Kos, about 4 km to the east, and the area covered is 85–100 acres. The wetland functioned as a salt flat for the production of sea salt by the Italians during the Italian Occupation, similar to the Tigaki salt flat. There is rich fauna which includes water turtles, herons and flamingos in large numbers. It is a quiet wildlife refuge protected for its preservation (SPA - GR4210027). Surrounding the wetland, for the most part, there is a dirt path where you can take a walk and explore its magic.
